How to Take Baytril
Baytril is a broad-spectrum antibiotic often used to treat infections of the liver, lungs, GI tract, skin issues, and urinary tract. It can be taken orally or given as an injection. Baytril has also proven to be highly effective in the treatment of canine ear infections.
Baytril is available in three different tablet strengths. It is also available as an injectable solution. The variety of applications allows the veterinarian to begin treatment with an injection and prescribe tablets to be given by the pet owner as follow-up to the injection. Baytril tablets are usually given to dogs once daily.
Baytril is commonly prescribed for cats with a cough resulting from an upper respiratory condition. Baytril attacks the DNA structure of the bacteria, thus rendering it unable to reproduce and multiply. Baytril should not be used when coughing is not the result of an infection. Baytril should not be given to pregnant or nursing animals.
It is generally given to cats for a period of 5 to 10 consecutive days. Standard dosage is 5mg/kg b. w. given once daily for cats and 5mg/kg b. w. given once daily for dogs.
Baytril tablets should be continued for two to three days after clinical signs of the infection disappear.
