Once treatment is started then they will be observed by the veterinarian and check ups will be followed up on a regular basics

Treatment For Hypothyroidism In Cats:

- Methimazole
- Synthetic or levothyroxine
- thyroid supplementation
- generic brands for levothyroxine

The side effects for treatment include but not limited to:

- upset stomach
- dizziness
- headache
- sore throat
- drowsiness
- decrease of appetite
- unusual bruising plus bleeding
- vomiting
- rashes
- weakness in general

If any side effects happen when the cat is on treatment then they will look into other ways of treatment. This could include either with switching the dosage amount or with giving them a new medication or treatment all together. The vet should be notified right away when any of the side effects happen.

Treatment is started at a low dose and after a few weeks the vet will check to see if the dose is working the way it should or if it needs to be uped. Sometimes the dosage might need to be changed after several months of treatment because of either diet change or the way the medication is working.
