Lyme is common disease found among dogs mostly living in the mid-Atlantic and northeastern states of United States and is caused by deer tick. The tick when gets attached to the dog’s coat releases Borrelia Burgdorferi bacteria into the dogs bloodstream which results in the outburst of the Lyme disease. In order to transmit the disease into the dog’s blood the deer tick needs to stay attached to the body for about 48 hours.

The most common symptoms of Lyme disease are lameness, lethargy, swollen lymph nodes, loss of appetite, high fever and inflamed joints. Next is the antibiotic therapy in which Doxycycline drug is given to the dog orally and is repeated every 12-24 hours. Apart from this there are other antibiotics like Tetracycline, Amoxicillin, and Cephalexin which are also very effective in treating Lyme. The antibiotic therapy does not remove the Borrelia burgdorferi from the dog’s body but it controls the bacterial development and thus helps to reduce the symptoms effectively caused due to this disease.
