In many cases urinary tract infection symptoms might be really hard to notice right away with dogs. It is not until later the symptoms become more noticeable and at that point the dog will need to be given treatment right away.
Symptoms of urinary tract infections with dogs include but not limited to:
- urinating in unusual places
- urine smells very foul
- fever
- lethargy
- fatigued
- blood in the urine
- straining while trying to urinate
- the stomach area is tender
- not drinking enough
- not wanting to use the bathroom outside
If there are any changes or if a dog breaks a urination habit and it continues the doctor should be notified. Sometimes the dog might bark or try to put off using the bathroom outside. The dog might show signs of not being interested in using the bathroom and could go for hours before the ask to go outside to use it. When they start straining while trying to use the bathroom the vet should be notified. Straining is very serious and so is blood in the urine. When the symptoms are ignored the dog could get very sick and other diseases or infections might come as a result of the symptoms being ignored.
