In time there are certain symptoms that develop when a dog has Hypothyroidism. At first the symptoms might not show right away but later they could start becoming more obvious. One symptom that is usually noted at first is mental dullness but in time the other symptoms such as high blood cholesterol and hair loss start to appear.
Symptoms of Hypothyroidism In Dogs:
- hair loss
- mental dullness
- lethargy dullness
- cold intolerance
- excessive shedding
- dryness with the hair coat
- heart rate is slow
- anemia
- high blood cholesterol
Over 70% of the dogs with Hypothyroidism usually show signs of mental dullness and at least 80% develop high blood cholesterol. Only 10 % usually develop or show signs of a slow heart rate. Older dogs usually are the ones that might be at risk for a slower heart weight and cold intolerance. Another 65% show signs of hair loss. While 60% go through weight gain, excessive shedding and dry hair.
The symptoms of Hypothyroidism in dogs will vary depending on if the dog has a severe or mild case of Hypothyroidism. The other thing that might cause the symptoms to vary is to what kind of breed the dog is and if it is a small or bigger dog.
