What are the Symptoms of Dog Depression?

Depression can sometimes prove to be a serious enemy for dogs. If it is left unattended for a long period of time it can cause serious life-threatening conditions among dogs. Thus it is very important to identify the symptoms of depression in order to treat it effectively.

 Depression symptoms in dogs are very similar to those in humans. In most cases dogs suffering from depression become excessively lethargic or they start pacing around the house. Other common symptoms are loss of appetite, severe loss in weight, reduction in water consumption, loss of interest in daily activities, excessive sleepiness, sluggish movements, unusual flaking, Increase in restlessness and anxiety and aggressive behavior.

Generally due to depression dogs tend to lose interest in their toys, and other outside physical activities like playing or going on walks. They also become very lazy and frequently fall off to sleep. Dogs are said to be diurnal but if they spend most of the day time sleeping then it might due to depression. Dogs are usually food lovers. They always seem to be hungry. But if there is an abnormal change in their appetite due to which they start rapidly losing weight then it might be because of depression. Thus if a dog show any one of the following symptoms it needs to be taken to a veterinarian immediately.
