What are the Side Effects of Rabies Vaccine for Dogs?

Even though the vaccine for rabies is a must for every dog, it is not something that can be administered and then forgotten. This drug also has many side effects and may give rise to other complications. Thus, you should be vigilant and make sure that if there are any such side effects, it is dealt with.

Timing of the occurrence of the side effects

More often than not, if there is a side effect to appear, it should appear within the first 2-3 weeks of administering of the drug. This side effect can persist for as many as 45-50 days.

Some of the side effects

Some of the commonly observed side effects of rabies vaccine are:

  • Vomiting
  • Sensation of constant lethargy
  • Feverish sensation
  • Inactiveness
  • In extreme cases, death
  • Aggressiveness and becoming very irritated
  • A sudden change in behavior

There are also many nervous related problems that might occur. Seizures are commonly seen. Also, in many cases, epilepsy is observed. The vaccine is designed such that it attacks the nervous system of the body. This causes tiredness and muscle weakness. There are also cases of spinal cord observed. Some of the other symptoms on administering the rabies vaccine are different types of allergies and skin related problems. It may also lead to diseases related to immune system. The victims tend to start eating almost anything. Fibrocarcinomas is a type of cancer that is developed at the point of injection. In some cases, even this is developed after the rabies vaccine is given.
