What are the Parasitic Diseases in Dogs?

The common parasitic diseases in dogs are:

Babesiosis: It is caused by protozoa called piroplasmid. Normally female dogs are more prone to this disease. And then from one dog to the other this disease can be transmitted. Prevention is the best cure. There is a vaccine for babesiosis which can protect from this disease. The symptoms include respiratory problems, digestive disorders, and visual problems. In some cases, fever is also a strong symptom to indicate this infection. The disease spreads gradually throughout the body. It needs quick treatment. In case of complications and non-treatment, it can lead to death of the dog.

Leishmaniasis: Leishmania infantum is the parasite that causes this infection. The sand fly ingests leishmania from the infected dogs and can transmit to other pets. Some of the symptoms of this disease include nosebleeds, lethargy, ulcer, flaky and itchy skin and kidney problems. In this case prevention can be the best remedy because as of now, no vaccine has been found for this.

Coccidiosis: This is a parasitic disorder which affects the digestive system at the most. It is caused by single celled parasite coccidian. Most often puppies are infected with this. This is actually not very serious. But it creates complications when it leads to various immunodepression problems. Using sulfa drugs for treatment is recommended. Preventive measures must be taken to avoid this disease. And prevention is possible with isolating maternity in the breeding situation and disinfecting the environment regularly.
