What is Feline Hyperesthesia Syndrome?

Feline Hyperesthesia Syndrome is commonly known as the rolling skin syndrome is mostly found in Siamese cats. It has several similarities with seizure attacks.  It is a rare disease and very little is said or written about this disease.

The most common symptoms of this disease are twitching of tail, dilated pupils, change in the cat’s behavior, frequently biting the tail tip, giving blank stares, loud meowing, wrinkle formation on the skin near the tail and aimlessly moving around the house. Since very little information is there about this disease it is commonly believed that the causes of this disease are diet deficiency, reaction to certain chemicals and preservatives and over vaccination. Health problems like diabetes, kidney or liver disease, cancer and thyroid can also trigger feline hyperesthesia syndrome.

Thus the best way to prevent this disease from affecting the cats is by bringing a change in the cat’s lifestyle. It is essential to replace the cat’s low quality food with nutritious diet. Low quality food means foods that consist of coloring agents, sodium nitrate, stabilizers and chemicals. Such foods have to be replaced with homemade foods or good quality canned foods.
