What are the Eye Problems in Dogs?

Some of the common eye problems in dogs are:

Cataracts: It means is the opacity of the lens. Cataracts may develop in dogs because of aging, diabetes, trauma, inflammation and hereditary factors.

Dry Eye: This problem involves inadequate production of tears. Sometimes this can be congenital. It is a very serious problem.

Cherry eye: This disorder is characterized by a tiny reddish bump protruding above third eye lid of the dog. In most cases surgery is recommended for correcting this condition.

Cornea Ulcer: Just like other ulcers, ulcer in cornea can be very painful. This condition is very serious and need immediate treatment. In some dogs it may even lead to squinting eye.

Ectopic Cilia: This is the condition in which abnormal eyelashes grow through the conjunctivas of the dogs. And due to this condition, there is severe pain and sometimes there might be an ulcer too.

Glaucoma: This is the eye problem is characterized by increase in eye pressure. And glaucoma occurs due to reduction of the amount of eye fluid. This condition needs quick treatment or it can lead to eye complications and even blindness. Glaucoma cannot be cured fully. It can only be controlled.

Ocular Melanosis: This is a disease which is also known as pigmentary glaucoma.
Apart from these some other eye disorders found in dogs are ectropion and retinal dysplasia.
