Can Dogs have Strokes?
|
Most often the dog owners try to find out whether their dogs can have strokes or not and the answer would be yes. But the best part is that this is not much common among them. The strokes in human are caused by the abnormal flow of blood or problems in the blood vessels. There are two different reasons that cause strokes in dogs which are slightly different from the causes for human strokes.
The fibrocartilaginous emboli or FCE is known as ‘Old dog vestibular disease’. In this disease tiny and microscopic pieces of fibrous and cartilage tissues are developed which blocks the flow of blood in the arteries and veins present inside the spinal cord. There are certain symptoms of FCE which are found in some specific species of dogs.
There are no assured curative measures available for the treatment of this disease. Although there are certain supportive cares which coupled with great nursing can help the dog with this. In this disease the vestibular nerve also faces inflammation which causes the acute pain in the dog’s ear. It is advisable to seek the help of a skilled veterinary professional whenever the dog is suffering from any symptoms. |
