Can Dogs Catch Colds?

Yes, even dogs can catch cold and even their bodies are equally vulnerable to cold. But this cold is often different from what is observed in the humans and also has different implications. The virus that causes cold in dogs is different from the virus that causes cold in humans.
It basically is some sort of respiratory problem which has symptoms that are like human cold which includes sneezing and coughing. The virus that causes cold in dogs belongs to picornavirus. It is common to keep your dogs in kennels when you are out on a vacation. You must have observed that when you return, your dog has cough and cold. This is commonly termed as kennel cold. It is most commonly seen in the canines. The main reason of this is sudden exposure to different dogs.
The symptoms of kennel cough are similar to the human sneezing and coughing. It is a very common virus and can easily spread from one body to another. It is spread due to high proximity between the dogs. Kennel cough causes the inflammation of the upper part of the respiratory system. Not only is this caused by viral infection but in some causes it is also caused by bacterial infection. |
