Can Dogs Have Diarrhea With Blood?

Occurrence of blood in the stool of the dog is a matter of medical concern and must be taken seriously. If such a condition occurs then it is necessary to take your dog to the vet. Many times diarrhea is followed by blood in the stool and the severity varies depending on whether the diarrhea is chronic or acute.
Many times it is seen that dog will have a bout of diarrhea with flax of blood seen in the feces after number of bowel movements. Sometimes the amount of blood present in the feces may be too high. This occurs because any irritation caused to the internal lining of the intestine will lead to its bleeding and this blood is then seen in the feces. Presence of blood in the feces indicates the serious condition of the intestinal tract of the dog.
Parasites, hemorrhagic gastroenteritis and viral infections are some of the cause that gives rise to blood in the stool. In the initial stage, parasite rarely cause occurrence of blood in the stool but if it progresses to advance stage then it will be very difficult to treat it. Hookworms can also lead to blood in stools because they bite and get attached to the inner linings of the intestine and sucks blood. |
