Dogs Diarrhea and Peptobismol
For treating diarrhea in dogs, treatment known as dog diarrhea peptobismol can be used but it need to be administered only under the advice of veterinarian. Diarrhea is dreadful disorder as it causes the dehydration of the dog. So it is strongly recommended to visit vet as soon as you see any symptoms of diarrhea such as reduction in activity of dog, change in behavior, change in the movement of bowels, blood present in the stool, loss of energy.
While giving bland diet it is necessary to ensure that your dog is drinking plenty of water to make up for the water loss caused by dehydration. Peptobismol soothes the internal lining of the stomach and intestine.
Peptobismol is available in different strength and so it must be administered to the dog only after the doctor’s consultation. Intake of peptobismol is convenient even for the dog because they can chew the tablet rather than consuming oral suspension form of medicine. One or two days of peptobismol is sufficient for treating diarrhea and if taken for long time can give rise to side effects such as formation of grey black stools or color of the tongue getting darkened temporarily.
