What are the Common Symptoms of Dog Allergies?

Allergies among dogs are quite common. But it is difficult to diagnose the condition and seek treatment for the same. The body’s response to the allergen can cause flaky skin, itchy skin, breathing problems, inflammation in the body, swelling of face and vomits. But, most of the times, it is difficult to find out the allergen which triggers this kind of response.

Some of the symptoms of dog allergies that must give the signal are:

  1. Respiratory effects: When the allergen triggers respiratory response, it may include symptoms like runny nose, breathing problems, coughing, sneezing and discharge from eyes.

  2. Effects on skin: The skin may become flaky and/or itchy. Rashes are quite common during allergies on some parts or on the entire body.

  3. Digestive effects: If the allergy has affected the digestive system then it may lead to vomiting, stomach upset, loss of appetite, diarrhe

4. Systemic effect: Sometimes an acute or chronic allergic reaction can cause swelling of face, inflammation in certain parts of the body, swelling of feet, drop in blood pressure and swelling of airway.

Some dogs may have allergic reactions like hives, hay fever, chronic dermatitis, discomfort, pain in the body, restlessness and lethargy. It is important to seek medical attention for your dog as soon as you find the above symptoms.
