What are the causes of Digestive Disorders in Cats?
|
Digestive disorders in cats are very common and in most cases they require urgent medical attention. There are various factors which are responsible for feline digestive disorders. The most common causes are pancreatitis, parasites and parvovirus, hair balls, obstruction of the intestine and pancreatic insufficiency. Pancreatic insufficiency is caused due to the insufficient secretion of the digestive enzymes by the pancreas.
This causes harm to the cat’s normal digestion process due to which the cat does not get sufficient nutrition and hence starts to lose weight significantly. The second cause of digestive disorder is the obstruction of the cat’s intestine which is caused due to the swallowing of some indigestible stuff like strings or some tiny objects. In such cases the cat struggles to pass stool or vomit but fails to do so. Pancreatitis is another common cause which is distinguished by pancreas inflammation caused when the digestive enzymes secreted by the pancreas fails to flow into the digestive tract. This leads to the spill out of the digestive enzymes within the pancreas, which results in the absorption of the pancreatic tissues. This causes severe abdominal pain.
Another common cause is the hair ball. Cats are often likely to consume a lot of fur while brushing. This fur does not get digested and starts building up inside the stomach until the cat vomits the hair ball. Lastly parasites like intestinal worms also cause digestive disorders. |
