Blood in Canine’s Urine

When dogs have blood or blood clots in urine it can be as simple as a urinary tract infection, bladder or kidney infection, however it can be a more serious condition. It can be a symptom of cancer. There are other causes that can cause blood in the urine such as bladder or kidney stones and it can also be caused by an infection from a blood parasite known as Ehrlichia canis.

In most cases the first testing that will be done is blood testing, this can tell the platelet levels and the blood count can tell the veterinarian a lot about the illness the canine has, including if there is a need for more testing.

Treatment for infections will be treated with antibiotics and in the case of bladder or kidney cancer there will be other treatment choices that will be used to treat the cancer and to keep the dog pain free.
