Baytril Side Effects
The use of Baytril can cause adverse reactions leading to side effects associated with developmental difficulties, digestive system conditions, neurological disorders, and urinary tract difficulties.
Due to the adverse effect Baytril has on developing bones it is not recommended for use in growing puppies, nursing animals, or pregnant animals.
Vomiting and diarrhea are two of the more common digestive side effects related to the use of antibiotics. Nausea causes a decrease in appetite. Other adverse effects can lead to elevated liver enzymes, loss of appetite, seizures, or vertigo. Baytril can cause dilated pupils or blindness when used to treat cats.
Urinary side effects can arise if the administration of Baytril causes crystals to form in the urine. Although very rare, the possibility exists for the crystals to create bladder stones, thus blocking the urinary tract and making it painful to pass urine. Crystals in the urine can cause dizziness, extreme thirst, and problems with coordination.
Neurological concerns arise when a dog shows symptoms of being lightheaded, dizzy, or losing coordination. Neurological disorders can lead to seizures. Therefore, it is not recommended to use Baytril for dogs with existing seizure problems such as epilepsy or encephalitis.
