How is Cat Acne Treated?

It has been observed over the years that acne among cats can be brought to control, but cannot be really cured. In case, the bout of feline acne is mild to moderate, essential medicines can be given to treat the disease. In order to bring the disease in control, there are specialized sprays, shampoos, gels and oils available in the market.

These forms are antiseborrheic agents that contain rich quantities of benzoyl peroxide. This chemical, benzoyl peroxide, when applied on the right quantity on affected areas of the cat, work towards the breakdown of excessive accumulation of oil that causes the formation of acne. Further, medicines rich in fatty acids can also beneficial at controlling the progression of this disease. Topical forms of anti-biotic, like mupirocin should only be given as a secondary treatment in case there is an outbreak of a bacterial infection. In case, the cat is suffering from high levels of inflammation in form of scratches, redness and rashes, it should be treated with a short course of corticosteroids.

 One of the most popular forms of corticosteroids, especially given at the time of acne is prednisolone. Further, it is advisable to switch the food dishes to stainless steel to avoid the further relapse of feline acne in future.
